You need to make sure that you keep your gutters clean. You should clean your gutters out at least twice a year. If you are not physically up for the task, or if you don't have the time to clean your gutters, you can hire a guttering service to take care of this tasks for you. It is important to keep your gutters clean as there are serious consequences for not keeping your gutters clean.

#1 Mosquitoes

When your gutters become clogged with debris, stagnant water builds up in your gutters. Water does not freely flow through your gutters. Instead, the water will sit in your gutters, waiting to evaporate.

This stagnant water makes a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. If you have mosquitoes around your home, and you have got rid of other sources of stagnant water, the mosquitoes may be breeding in your gutters. Not only are mosquitoes annoying, they can carry dangerous diseases for both your family and your pets.

#2 Foundation

When your gutters do not drain properly, your home's foundation can suffer. When your gutters are clogged, and a big rainstorm hits, instead of the water going through your gutters, the water will instead overflow on either side of your gutters, running down the side of your home. This can displace the soil around your foundation, which can cause the foundation to shift. A shifting foundation is very serious, and can ruin your home.

#3 Basement

If you have a basement, it can be damaged by clogged gutters as well. The water that runs down the side of your home when your gutters get clogged can make their way into your basement. Water can seep through the walls of your basement, leading to mold and mildew issues, making your basement an unsafe place to occupy.

#4 Pavement

Clogged gutters can also damage pavement around your home. Your driveway, patio, and sidewalks are all at risk when you have a clogged gutter system. With a clogged gutter system, the water has to go somewhere. Instead of going through your gutters, to the proper drainage path away from your home, the water will instead flow around your driveway, sidewalks, and patio, disturbing the soil around your pavement structure. This can lead to cracks and damage to pavement structures around your home.

Simply failing to clean your gutters can have numerous serious consequences for your home. It can lead to more mosquitoes on your property, flooding in your basement, foundation issues, and compromise the integrity of cement and asphalt structures around your home. You can prevent all of these serious consequences from occurring by simply cleaning out your gutters, or hiring a company that specializes in guttering services to do this task for you. It is an important task that you should not overlook.
